Turelio's Hobby Hoard

I grabbed a bunch of minis the other night, with the intent to work on some for the 48 Challenge mentioned in Bingo post. My intent was to do a horse drawn limber from Flames Of War, but while I like the models, I was a bit intimidated by the number of parts in them. They will be a future project, but I decided to do the rats from the Mantic Dungeon Critter box. After thinking the resin blocks off all the models in the kit, I cleaned up the rats, roughly filled in the holes in the base with Vallejo Plastic Putty, and got them ready to prime. The resin is really nice. It holds sharp details, and there has only one rat with a slightly miscast area (lack of texture), but it's so small it's barely noticeable when painted. The resin is also a bit softer than I've worked with before, but also firm. I was able to snip and cut pieces without much force, but it's still solid, and they have a lot of fine details like the tails which show well. Whatever Mantic are doing resin wis...

So, as part of my lead up to shoulder surgery, I spent some time prepping models to paint when I was better, as well as generally helping to get through some of the backlog of minis I have lying around ready to be used for stuff.  First up were some Haqqislam models from Infinity. I have had these sitting around a long time, as they were in the same demo kit I got my hands on a while ago where my Yu Jing models are from. While it's not the basing style I had originally planned for them, I still like how they turned out. They are a nice change to the Yu Jing models. These ones are a bit chunkier, but still have some nice lines to them. My experience with the Yu Jing models was that while Infinity models seem intimidating at first, they are no more difficult to paint than other models, and lend themselves to to some simple yet effective colour schemes with room to have fun.  Progress left until painting: I have to fill a few small gaps on some models, and they are rea...

About a week ago, I got invited to a friend's place with another friend so that he could try cooking Moroccan food. The other thing in the invite? This: There was mention of bringing our own minis for the event if we wanted, so I turned up with the two most Hero Quest-y models I had in terms of stereotypes: Legolas, and a random Dwarf model I painted years ago (Burlok Damminson seemed overkill). We played through the first quest, and it took about two hours. I should point out that the last time I played this I was probably 12, but for a while, it was the board game a few friends and I played for several school holidays. A Hero Quest goblin is also the first mini I ever painted, and to the best of my knowledge is still in the possession of my best friend.
