Things Get Painted - Sea Lion

Just some quick photos I took of a Reaper Bones Sea Lion I painted for the OzPainters Underwater challenge.

Things Get Painted - More Bones, and some Malifaux

Image
So a few quick updates and work in progress shots... The McMourning crew makes small shuffling steps of progress. At a recent painting day I brought models to work on, and promptly forgot the colour steps I was working with :/ Small areas of green are appearing on a few models though, so that's at least some progress. Pictured above is one of the Crooligans. OzPainters had a basing challenge, and after hastily constructing this base, I managed to get it painted in about 20 minutes and submitted with a few minutes left. The model's paint job is a rough one, and the base matches it, but it's good enough for a bit of drama on the table top. For a future project...? I got all my old Falcon Grav Tanks for Epic in one place. They need a new paint job (Biel Tan), and will form a group in Epic, which will probably just be a fun tabletop project. However I might do some hovering bases for them. Hmmm... A Reaper Bones Mimic. A quick job on a mini I put a base coat on l...

Things Get Painted - Rackham Familiar of Dark

Image
Just a quick post for this little model!  This was a mini I painted for the 6th OzPainters Challenge, with the theme of Dark. Initially I wanted to do it as a graveyard scene, but while I was hunting for bits I found a plinth I had got from Weisern on OzPainters a few years ago. I wanted this to be a quick job, so I just did some plain texture on top and painted the model. I initially wanted to paint it took look like a moonlit scene, but it quickly moved towards a blue-tinted black and white scene. This was also my first time trying out NMM in a more serious fashion, and I think I am getting slightly better at it, but also have a way to go. The scythe was a good area to practice on though, as it let me get a chance to try this on a large flat surface and blend something a bit more, which I haven't done in a while.  It's also the first Rackham mini I have ever painted, so it's a small item on my painting bucket list ticked! The mini can be voted on as well w...

Things Get Painted - Katie

So, this will be a quick post. This was done for the OzPainters Challenge #3 , where my least painted colour is apparently pink. This model is TINY! It's a 30mm base she is standing on, so that shows how short she is. I based the colour scheme slightly on Penny from Inspector Gadget. Because I'm old, and thought that was fun. Anyway, onto the pictures! For those of you who vote on minis... CMON -  Here! Putty and Paint -  Here!

Things Get Painted - WIP - Chaos Warrior from a long forgotten time.

Image
I've started some challenges on the OzPainters forum, and this month the challenge is to paint red. Just after it started (yeah, I picked a topic with no specific target for myself, which was fun) I realised I had picked up a classic chaos warrior at a bring and buy (possibly last years EucBowl). Chaos Warriors are red, because the only God worth following is Khorne. Right? Part of the fun has been flipping this guy over to find he is only two years younger than me. Potentially we were both in the UK at the same time, making our seperate ways here, on,y to meet nearly thirty years later. But that meant something else as well... The top right are metal filings from a Privateer Press model I'm working on at the moment. The bottom left, you may notice is a duller grey colour. This model contains lead. That's a blast from the past. I built the base up using my usual tricks, and gave him a white undercoat to prep him for painting on Sunday. As you might be able to tell, the colo...

Random Thoughts 14 - Adventures at Cancon 2014, and the Meg Maples Painting Workshop

So I'll start by pointing out that this is part of the reason I've been worn out lately. I've been really busy lately, and it's left me rather drained. Blogging has been the last thing in my mind, sadly. Also, there aren't any images in this post... yet. I'll add them in later, but I seem to have lost most of the images from the last month on my laptop somewhere. Anyway, on with the fun and games!

Random Thoughts 5 - HAPPY NEW YEARS!

So new years has rolled around, and at the time of this going live, I'm honestly not sure what I will be doing. However, I'm typing this up ahead of time to get a few things ready to post on time. Anyway, I figured that I'd go through some of the bloggy things I've enjoyed this year... Dungeons & Dragons After not playing this since uni, I got invited to play in a campaign earlier in the year (which is still ongoing). I almost forgot how enjoyable this game can be, especially with a good group of people. So far the games have been fantastic, even if the other team got killed off two games in, leaving the 'regulars' team with a sense of dread nearly every game that this is the one we will finally be killed in. The story that has been created for it as well is full of plenty of side details to make a conspiracy theorist like me start to watch out for tiny elements that may come back later. And playing an Elf Ranger with a... not very obvious morale code and wh...

Painting Comps for 2011

A quick one as well: Games Day/Golden Demon was held two weeks ago, and I finally placed! Not only that, it was two gold! One for LOTR single and LOTR group. I'll do a bigger write up at some point in the future, and will also have some pictures of the entries soon (Hopefully). On top of that, I ended up getting a silver and two bronzes from the OzPainters Open held in Melbourne a few weeks previous to Demons, and the same weekend as Demons, I got a Large Model second place for Teddy at MOAB! So the past few weeks have turned out very well for painting comps.
