Things Get Built: So Many Things...

Image
I've not been painting much lately, but I've been trying to build a lot of the models sitting at my desk so that I can get them ready for painting. Here's what I've been getting built over the last few weeks... Mantic Dwarves! OK, so they were half built when I got them, but I've finished building and figured out how they all rank up, and labelled them to save on confusion. I still have to go and clean off burrs and mould lines, but these should be things I can quickly paint up to build a force. A Ulix crew (or at least the start of one) for Malifaux. This is the standard box set, plus The Sow, Old Cranky, and some Piglets. I want to eventually expand the crew (lots of pigs!), but this will be a good start. I really liked the models once they were built, with Old Cranky and his pipe probably being the fiddliest detail in the crew. More Neverborn! The Sorrows will be added to Lilith's force, The Carver will join Pandora as a Killjoy proxy (I have a lot of things ...

Things Get Painted - WIP - By Order Of The Governor's Secretary!

Cardinal rule, I think, for anyone that wants to compete in miniature painting comps regularly, should be: "Don't start a new project within a few months of a competition." Further to that: "Don't start an tabletop level project, that will confuse things." The downfall of this is: "These old metals are cheap..." I started another Malifaux crew... Hall of Heroes is getting rid of some of their old stock at half price. I haven't been keen on new crews unless I can grab the totem at the same time. McMourning is a set of models I like, but the Zombie Chihuahua has been hard to get for a while. They had two in stock... I grabbed them about a fortnight ago, and spent the end of my last two days at work listening to a phone that does not ring cleaning the mould lines off the models. Last night and tonight I assembled the models and stuck them to bases. For the first time in. Y life, I'm doing Malifaux models on what I consider to be 'basic...

Things Get Played: Lady Justice, defeated in Parramatta

As a quick post, I've been playing Malifaux on a weekly basis for a while now. This is for a few reasons: 1) I figured if I didn't force some R&R into my life, into would be hard to fit in later on 2) A great Hobby Store, The Games Cube, opened up a few suburbs away, and they run Malifaux on Wednesday nights 3) In the time I wasn't playing it, I missed it, and wanted to play it more.  4) I wanted to use Justice more in the lead-up to 2nd Edition, to try to get more 1st edition experience with her before the switch. In the past few weeks I've managed to get a game in every week at least (apart from one night where I painted), and a few months ago played in the GT here in Sydney. It's also been fun going against some crews I don't often get a chance to go up against. Last week I went up against Mark's Colette Crew, which is a really nice looking crew. Mark did a write up on his own blog with some pictures of the match you should check out if you h...

Judged and found wanting...

There are very few things about my hobby I dislike, and last night, three of them happened, all related... 1) Miniatures falling apart 2) Not being prepared 3) Having to scrape black paint off my fingernails at work the following morning, looking like I had a late night at a goth club As some of you might know (From things like Twitter, not from this now rarely-updated blog), I've got myself involved in a Malifaux Slow Grow to try and clear out some models I have had backlogged for a while.
